NEXT DRAWING ~ “ENDURING ISOLATION”
A prominent aging birch tree, enduring isolation along the Craggy Garden, Pinnacle trail. Gnarled by harsh easterly winds whipping over the summit of one of the Great Smokey Mountain’s tallest peaks, this ancient natural landmark has endured brutal, frigid whether conditions that most plant-life simply could not endure. In this image, it’s character is revealed as a myriad of young golden-green ferns, struggling to sprout, flourish beneath it’s protective, blossoming canopy. Moderate fog hints of unpredictable whether conditions as the sun struggles to break through, offering a few moments of life-giving sunlight, one mild spring morning. Perhaps it’s relentless determination to prevail in such a hostile environment is the very thing that attracts so many to take notice of it’s unique beauty in spite of a twisted and gnarled appearance. Regardless, it’s ability to survive has, no doubt, afforded many refugee beneath its umbrella of protection against the elements in times of extreme duress.
